Eat Like a Local: Missoula Market Favorites

Outdoor markets are a great way to explore local art, culture, and feel of a town while on vacation.  They are also a fun way to get a taste of the local favorite foods.  There are 3 outdoor Missoula markets on Saturday morning, during the summer months.  These markets are within walking distance of each other, and it is here that  visitors and residents find Missoula's market favorites:

Lifeline Farm Cheese Curds

Found at the Clark Fork Market are locally made - organic cheesy gems that come in several flavors.  Perfect for snaking while wondering the markets.

Dixon Melons

The best melons in Montana are grown on a small family farm just north of Missoula.  The melon truck starts popping up at the Missoula Farmers Market in late summer and can be found through early fall.

Morel Mushrooms

One of the most prized and delicious mushrooms can be found regularly at Missoula's markets during their peak season mid-May through mid-June.  They are also a favorite among local restaurants.

Huckleberries

Enjoy Montana's famous berries without scaling a mountainside.  When these berries are in season, July-August, there are several family stands selling them fresh off the bushes.

The 2016 Summer Farmers Market season in Missoula begins May 7th and most markets will be open every Saturday through mid-October.  Be sure to stop in and try the Missoula market favorites when you're in town.  Visit our events page, for other fun summer activities in Missoula.
