At the end of summer, when most cities are settling into fall and gearing up for the new school year Missoula is gearing up for a signature celebration. The River City Roots Festival is one of the top festivals in the state and features events and activities for everyone. It all begins on Friday August 22nd, at the Top Hat Lounge with ZACC for their Family Friendly Friday event.
This Stand-Up Paddleboard event takes place in the heart of downtown Missoula, on the river. There are 1 & 5 mile events. If you are looking to watch the events the Kim Williams Trail will have great views!
The River City Roots Festival 2014 would not be complete with out some great music. There is an eclectic lineup of bands scheduled to play at this years festival. From bluegrass to zydeco music, and hometown bands! Saturday includes The Lil' Smokies, Whizpops, New Reeltime Travelers, The deadly Gentlemen and Sam Bush. While Sunday features Shakewell, Reverend Slanky, Ear Phunk as well as Nathan and the Zydeco Cha Chas.
This years festival will feature an art show, where more than 30 artists from the Pacific Northwest will featured this year. Their art will be on display on Main Street downtown throughout the weekend.
Bring the kids, and Grandma with you this year to the River City Roots Festival 2014. There will be fun for everyone. With events for kids like art and music geared specifically for the little ones, to Tango and family dance classes. There is a bit fun for the young to the young-at-heart.
This 4-mile run begins at Missoula's XXXX's and hits the trails around downtown until the runners reach the finish line at Caras Park. The run starts at 10am on Sunday August 24th, and features age groups from 13-70+. Walkers and strollers are welcome in this event.
Most of the food that will be served at the River City Roots Festival 2014 is grown locally in Western Montana whenever possible. There will be more than 15 food vendors on site to satisfy your sweet or savory cravings.
This year's festival will be showcasing more sustainability ideas for Missoula. With reusable cups, and water refill stations throughout the festival, recycling centers, and all promotional materials printed on recycled paper. Most of the food and drinks are produced right here in Missoula and Western Montana as well. Parking downtown is always free in the evenings and weekends, and everyone is encouraged to walk, and bike when possible!
The River City Roots Festival is a free event, that brings residents and visitors together for two days of fun. The live music, great food, and entertainment are a recipe for another great weekend in Missoula, Montana.
