The String Orchestra of the Rockies' November concert focuses on our educational outreach and shines the spotlight on our talented local young string students as they join us in a side-by-side collaborative performance of “Muse” by the Grammy-nominated American composer Christopher Theofanidis. This brilliant, fiery, neo-Baroque work is inspired by the 3rd Brandenburg concerto of Bach, which will be performed on the program as well. Praised by the New York Times as “stunning, incisive and radiant,” our newly appointed Artistic Director Maria Larionoff will be featured as violin soloist in the jazzy, tango-inspired “Invierno Porteno” by Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla and the beloved “Winter” from Antonio Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. The program opens with Maria Larionoff and Margaret Baldridge, UM Professor and Concertmaster of the Missoula Symphony, in the wonderful double violin concerto of Bach.
