River News and Brews
Thu May 23 2019, 06:00 PM - 07:00 PM
It’s almost that time. Last year’s Clark Fork river flows peaked on May 12th. Newspaper headlines read River Flooding, and the community held its breath as cracks and weaknesses began to appear in the protective berm that separates the contaminated Smurfit Stone Container site from the Clark Fork. Soon, a plume of harmful pollution could be seen leaving the site and entering the river.
“To close for comfort!” we cried.
One year later, rivers are rising again, and many are keeping a watchful eye downstream. After last year’s close call, both the contamination and berm remain unchanged, prompting the questions “What are the risks?” and “What’s the hold up?”
Clark Fork Coalition and Great Burn Brewing present our 5th River News and Brews: the Smurfit Investigation on Thursday, May 23rd at 6:00 pm. Join science director, John DeArment, and legal director, Andrew Gorder, as they drill into the How, Why, Who, and What’s Next? of Smurfit. Stay for Q &A and discussion about the future of this site.
Big Thai Country will be serving food from the Great Burn parking lot starting at 5:00 pm!
