The Kootenai Country Montana Chainsaw Carving Championship
Fri Sep 15 2017 - Sun Sep 17 2017, All Day
Kootenai Country Montana is pleased to announce the inaugural Kootenai Country Montana Chainsaw Carving Championship, to be held in Libby, Montana, USA, Sept. 15 – 17, 2017. The event will feature 12 of the world’s foremost chainsaw carvers, including competitors from Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
“Kootenai Country Montana is dedicated to highlighting the special character of this beautiful place we call home,” Kootenai Country Montana director Bob Henline said. “There’s nothing that shouts Libby, Montana, like chainsaw carving. It’s an integral piece of this area’s unique culture and history. We thought bringing the world’s best carvers here would shine a national, and possibly global, spotlight on Libby.”
With the help of veteran chainsaw artist and contest organizer Steve Backus, Kootenai Country Montana and the Venture Inn have secured commitments from 12 of the world’s finest chainsaw artists. The artists are gathering in Libby to compete for a prize purse of more than $10,000.
The event will be open to the public free of charge and will include carving demonstrations, vendor booths, and opportunities to meet and engage with the artists as they work on their competition sculptures and several smaller quick-carve pieces. In addition to the judges’ picks, there will also be a people’s choice award to be determined by the show’s spectators.
“Our goal to create an event that not only casts Libby in a positive light, but that also involves the people of this incredible community,” Henline said. “We want everyone to have fun here, visitors and locals alike, and we’re confident that the show these carvers, our organizers and announcers have planned is going to make this event something you won’t want to miss.”
The event is scheduled to begin Friday, Sept. 15, 2017, in Libby. Carvers will work Friday, Saturday, and Sunday morning on their competition pieces with short “quick-carve” breaks. The quick-carve pieces will be available for public auction during the competition. The event will also feature a special VIP dinner and auction on Saturday, with special pieces created by the competitors available for bidding and purchase.
