Audition: "The 39 Steps" with the Missoula Community Theatre

Sun Jan 28 2018, 12:30 PM - 03:30 PM

The Missoula Community Theatre is holding an open audition on Sunday, January 28 for "The 39 Steps." The audition will take place from 12:30-3:30 PM on the third floor of the MCT Center for the Performing Arts. Please use the Main Street entrance.

A fast-paced, frantically funny who-dun-it based on the 1935 Alfred Hitchcock film, "The 39 Steps" is a non-musical that requires a small but highly versatile cast of 8 adults. Director Andy Meyers anticipates casting 1-7 women and 2-8 men (ages 16 and older). The Missoula Community Theatre is excited to welcome back guest director Meyers, who is currently the artistic director of Fort Peck Summer Theatre. He has directed and performed extensively around the country.

The most straightforward character to be cast is matinee idol Richard Hannay, who will be played by a male. One female will be cast as Pamela/Annabella/Margaret, who are three very distinctive, different women. The two clowns (male or female) play 50+ characters between them and will require actors who can play roles of any age, gender, social class, and physicality. An onstage sound man, the Foley Artist, will create sound effects throughout the show. Meyers will also cast a 4-member ensemble (male or female) who will serve as onstage crew, atmosphere creators, and assistance in puppetry and special effects.

No advance preparation is required to audition. Call-backs will take place the same afternoon. Meyers expects that rehearsals will be weeknights from 7-10:30 PM. The performances of "The 39 Steps" will be March 8-18, 2018.
