Our November concert brings one of Missoula’s most celebrated and accomplished musicians to the stage, violist Maria Lambros, who returns to her hometown to perform with the SOR. Currently a Professor at the distinguished Peabody Institute of Music, Maria is a winner of the prestigious Naumburg Award and has been named as one of “Montana’s Leading Artists and Entertainers of the 20th Century.” Maria will be featured as soloist in Telemann’s G Major Viola Concerto and is then joined by SOR Artistic Director, Maria Larionoff, as both Marias perform the soulful “Atterberg Suite” for solo violin, viola and strings. We open this concert with a rarely heard work, the rhythmic and energetic “Concerto Grosso” by Giannini, a piece made popular by the legendary conductor Arturo Toscanini. Our program ends with our annual “Rising Stars” side-by-side event as we invite talented young string players from area high schools and the University of Montana to play in a special collaborative performance of the powerful Shostakovich “Chamber Symphony.” Please join us in this celebration of musical Missoulians!
