The Confluence Center (Western Montana's Home for Nonprofit Events) art program Torrents is thrilled to present a magical evening of art, music, and community! For the month of June we welcome two local textile artists, Bonnie Tarses & Jennifer Leutzinger.
Each artist is displaying her own separate body of work exhibiting different methods of textile artistry. Tarses presents her mastery of weaving with her work entitled “66 Years, but Who’s Counting?” Her passion to weave is seen clearly in her colorful, swirling creations. To her, weaving is the very opposite to everything wrong with the world: the opposite of Destruction is Creation, the root of life. Leutzinger believes combining small pieces to create something personal, handcrafted, and nostalgic is magical. She quickly learned that she prefers creating her own design to following a pattern, and hand-stitching to using a machine. Leutzinger’s body of work “Pershing Avenue” takes us through that magical trip down nostalgic memory lane with her larger than life and off-kilter quilts, bringing an obvious joy to the viewer.
Reception will be First Friday, June 5th, 5-8pm at the Confluence Center at 119 W Main St, Missoula, MT. Also featuring live music by the Jennifer Slayden, and be sure to catch our outdoor popup sculpture garden out behind Confluence! The exhibit will remain on display through June 26th and can be seen by appointment through the Confluence Center: 406-926-6526. There will also be an Artist Talk/Closing Reception for the held on Final Friday, June 26th, 6-8pm.
