What do you get when you mix epic skiing/snowboarding with local mountain charm? Snowbowl—Missoula's go-to mountain, a quick 30-minute drive from town. Powder Magazine sent professional skier Amie Engerbretson to Missoula to check it out for herself, and this "college town mixed with outdoor enthusiasts" did not disappoint. Here are some of our favorite spots Amie made it to:
First and foremost, Powder Magazine came to see what kind of skiing Missoula could dish up. They tackled Snowbowl's steepest runs, cruised on the groomers, paid a visit to the children's freestyle team, and topped it off at The Last Run for the world's best Bloody Mary.
If you saw a lively band and packed venue in Powder Magazine's video, it was probably Top Hat. A constant stream of local and big-name artists cycle through, and the casual bar and restaurant transforms into a live-music paradise once the sun goes down.
Everyone flocks to Missoula for spring and summer mountain biking, yet few realize the year-round opportunities on two wheels. Amie made the 5 minute drive out to Rattlesnake Canyon and realized, "I love to mountain bike in the summer, and it turns out I love to fat bike in the winter!"
Missoula is described as the "epicenter of craft beer in Montana," so it's no surprise that Amie visited Draught Works Brewery and met with their head brewer, Kyle. We hope she got a chance to sample their famous tropical IPA, Pineapple Express.
For a mountain town nestled in Western Montana, Missoula sure knows how to keep the party going with a vibrant nightlife. For yet another stop with live music and dancing, head to bars like The Union in downtown Missoula.
