Now entering its seventeenth year, the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival (BSDFF) is Montana’s premier cinema event and the largest documentary film festival in the American West. A prolific 10-day event held every February in Missoula’s historic theater, The Wilma, and neighboring venues, BSDFF lights up western Montana with over 150 extraordinary films from across the globe. Hundreds of filmmakers, industry professionals, and 20,000 highly engaged filmgoers attend screenings, live events, educational programs and film industry forums. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences named BSDFF an Oscar-qualifying festival in two Documentary Shorts categories and MovieMaker Magazine has named BSDFF on the top “50 Festivals Worth the Entry Fee” for three years running. Hosting over 200 visiting artists and media industry professionals, BSDFF also presents the DocShop filmmaker’s forum, a 5-day industry event that includes panels, master classes, workshops and the Big Sky Pitch event for works-in-progress.
