Trombone Shorty’s Voodoo Threauxdown

  • Where: KettleHouse Amphitheater 605 Cold Smoke Lane, Bonner MT Missoula, MT
  • When: Jul 1st, 2022 at 06:00 PM

Acclaimed jazz-funk musician Trombone Shorty & his band Orleans Avenue are bringing the spirit of NOLA back to KettleHouse Amphitheater on Friday, July 1, 2022 for another epic Voodoo Threauxdown — a talent packed mini-festival featuring Tank and the Bangas, Big Freedia, Cyril Neville, George Porter Jr. ft. Dumpstaphunk playing the music of The Meters, and The Soul Rebels.

Troy Andrews a.k.a Trombone Shorty brought the Voodoo Threauxdown to Montana to celebrate New Orleans’ tricentennial in 2018 and it was an absolute blast to say the least. This 2022 lineup is just as stacked as the last time so we’re really looking forward to it… not to mention it’s on a Friday night in July, so it should be gorgeous!

If you’re not familiar with Trombone Shorty, he’s an insanely talented musician, most notably for playing — you guessed it — the trombone, but also the trumpet. We’ve seen him and his equally talented band, Orleans Avenue, grow from a sold out show at the Top Hat, to the Wilma, and as mentioned, to the Amp. It feels like each show is better than the last.

Together, the Voodoo Threauxdown artists have a laundry list of achievements, but here’s a few quick notes. Tank and the Bangas won the 2017 NPR Tiny Desk Contest and were nominated for a Grammy in 2020. Big Freedia helped popularize “bounce music,” was nominated for several awards, and had her voice sampled by Beyonce.

George Porter Jr. was the bassist and singer of legendary and influential funk band, The Meters. He’ll be performing The Meters’ songs with Dumpstaphunk, whom Rolling Stone has called one of the “most prestigious modern funk ensembles.”

Cyril Neville is a percussionist and vocalist who was also a member of The Meters, and popular modern funk outfit, Galactic. The Soul Rebels were dubbed “the missing link between Public Enemy and Louis Armstrong” by the Village Voice.

There’s going to be plenty of collaboration throughout the evening on July 1st with a ton of improvisation, so do yourself a favor and do not miss this unparalleled performance!
