Mark your calendars for the 4th In the Footsteps of Norman Maclean Literary Festival in Missoula, Montana. The Festival's theme is Public Land & Sacred Ground: Western Writers Bear Witness and is scheduled for June 24 to June 26, 2022. Daytime events will be held at the new Missoula Public Library, where admission will be free to the public, although registration is encouraged. Registration will begin in a few weeks on our website: macleanfootsteps.com. The Festival will feature nationally prominent authors who will discuss the unique heritage of American wilderness, public lands and sacred grounds including Timothy Egan, Terry Tempest Williams, Doug Peacock, Sterling HolyWhiteMountain, Kevin Red Star, Rick Bass, Tarissa Spoonhunter, Peter Stark, Shane Doyle, Debra Magpie Earling, Sally Thompson, John Taliaferro, Rob Chaney and John Clayton. Evening events at the Festival are ticketed, and tickets will be available on April 1 for the Saturday Gala Dinner at The Wilma. Tickets for the Friday night Author Reception at the Dana Gallery will be sold at the door. The Monday, June 27 hikes sponsored by Wild Montana are free and registration will be announced later in the spring for those hikes. A display of work from local museums & schools based on John Maclean's recent memoir, Home Waters, will also be featured. Lodging will be tight in Missoula as the Missoula Marathon is also happening that weekend. Our website features hotels with Festival rates that are walking distance from the Festival sites. There are also other numerous less costly lodgings a driving distance from the Festival location that are not on our site. We look forward to gathering again.
