Mongolian Hunnu rock band, The HU, will return to Montana for two shows in Fall 2023, performing at The ELM in Bozeman on October 15th and The Wilma in Missoula on October 16th.
The HU was founded in 2016 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia and is comprised of Gala (morin khuur, vocals), Jaya (tumur khuur, tsuur, vocals), Enkush (morin khuur, vocals), Temka (tovshuur, backing vocals), and their producer Dashka. The band’s name translates to the Mongolian root word for human being, and their unique approach blends instruments like the Morin Khuur (horsehead fiddle), Tovshuur (Mongolian guitar), Tumur Khuur (jaw harp) and throat singing with contemporary sounds, creating a unique sonic profile that they call “Hunnu Rock.”
Their debut album, 2019 ‘s The Gereg, has accumulated over 250 million combined streams and received critical acclaim from the likes of Billboard, NPR, and GQ. They followed with their most recent album, Rumble of Thunder, in 2022.
Listen to a few of their tracks like “Wolf Totem,” “Yuve Yuve Yu,” and “This Is Mongol” to get a feel for their music. But to get the full effect of The HU’s mesmerizing sound, you must see them live. Their last two shows in Bozeman and Missoula sold out, so grab your tickets today!
